Tupelo High School, Stone High School and Bay High School garner top honors for their compelling videos and receive a combined $8,000 in scholarship funds
Ridgeland, Miss. (Oct. 16, 2012) – C Spire Wireless, the only wireless provider in the U.S. that offers a suite of personalized wireless services, today announced the winners of its recently concluded Bright Lights Football #School Spirit Video Contest.
The winner for the best overall video entry and recipient of the $5,000 grand prize scholarship is Tupelo High School, whose students and staff created an entertaining video showcasing the school’s spirit and pride with an up-beat video montage, featuring a variety of school organizations, sports and activities. Tupelo High School also won the $1,000 scholarship prize in the large school category (1,000+ students).
Stone High School in Wiggins, Miss. was awarded $1,000 for winning the medium school category (501-1000 students) with its creative video showcasing how students, staff and administrators “stay connected” in a variety of ways. The winning video for the small school category (0-500 students) came from Bay High School in Bay St. Louis. The Bay High School video featured scenes from various school activities, including football games, with student quotes about school spirit included throughout.
“We’re amazed by the creativity, time and effort that went into each and every video submitted for the Bright Lights Football #School Spirit Contest from high schools throughout Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee,” said Jim Richmond, vice president of Corporate Communications for C Spire Wireless. “As a dedicated community supporter for nearly a quarter century, C Spire understands the intense high school pride, passion and spirit that is naturally engrained in our communities, which is why we created this contest to showcase those traditions and give students and fans new ways to experience school pride using wireless technology.”
The Bright Lights Football #School Spirit Video Contest gave nearly 800,000 students at more than 1,200 public and private high schools throughout the three states the chance to create a 1 to 2 minute video showcasing what makes them proud of their school – highlighting everything from sports like football and marching bands to drill teams, cheerleaders, classes and clubs. Entries were judged on originality, creativity and online viewer votes between August 24 and Sept. 30. The winning video from Tupelo High School was broadcast Oct. 4 on Fox Sports South during the final Bright Lights high school football rivalry game of the 2012 season between Picayune and Pascagoula.
“C Spire’s Bright Lights Football #School Spirit Video Contest gave high school students, staff and fans throughout the region a unique platform to display their talents, utilize the latest wireless technology and demonstrate school pride like never before,” said Tupelo High School Principal Jason Harris. “We certainly appreciate C Spire’s involvement in our communities and the scholarship funding it provides through a variety of programs, including contests like one.”
Hope Hendry, principal of Stone High School and winner of the medium school category, echoed Harris’ praise of the video contest. “C Spire’s video contest not only gave students and staff at our high school an avenue to exhibit their own creativity, but it gave us the opportunity to win $1,000 in scholarship funding - something that we will put to good use for our students. We appreciate C Spire’s investments in our schools and our community.”
Recently concluding a successful and exciting fourth year, Bright Lights Football is C Spire’s original sports programming and content delivery program that showcases the drama, passion, community pride and human interest stories around some of the most famous high school football rivalries.
This year, C Spire arranged for the broadcast of four of the South’s biggest high school football rivalry games live during prime time in high definition on Fox Sports South, reaching up to 12.9 million cable and satellite households in seven Southeastern states for select games.
“C Spire and its Bright Lights Football program has become an important part of the overall excitement our communities have for high school football and the 2012 season proved to be another thrilling one for students, fans and families,” said Dr. Andy Parker, principal of Bay High School. “Plus, by adding the video contest, it is just one more way C Spire helps get everyone involved in the Bright Lights Football experience. We appreciate the company’s continued involvement in our community.”
